We recently completed a successful 12-month, £4.5m ‘Turnkey Installation’ of a canning plant for leading food and beverage can makers, Stolle, in Germany. One printing press was destined for a new facility in Yorkshire, while the remaining two were to be reinstalled elsewhere in Europe.
To facilitate this our activities included:
- Meticulously planning for lifting three presses with a combined weight of more than 1350 tonnes
- Technical meetings and risk assessments to aid planning and ensure safety
- Lifting of each section of the presses from its plinth using jacking systems
- Skating of each section to the building’s exit
- Lifting of each press onto its transportation, ready for the next stage of the journey
- Deployment of two Forklift Trucks, a Valla Mini Crane, an Ormig Mini Crane, 60/80 Versa Lift and Machine Moving Skates
- Use of a 220te mobile crane to complete some of the final lifts onto the low loaders
- Careful movement of the dryer section of each press, which measured over sixteen metres long and four metres wide and weighed forty-three tonnes. Due to a decline on the road at the exit of the building the dryer could only be skated less than a metre at a time before it need to be raised on chocs to enable it to stay parallel, ready for the final lift and rotation onto the back of the low loader
